Butterflies of the Lost Spring

Butterflies appear in art from as early as 3500 years ago. They often symbolize the soul of the dead, of the dying, or of the reincarnated. For me, they are the personification of elegance; they are ethereal representatives of the spring. Photographed from a set of deteriorated photo prints, these are images of butterflies that lived about two decades ago in the forests and gardens of Kerala, India, whom I photographed during various surveys. These images represent the souls of the butterflies themselves who have lost the pleasures of several springs that passed. Re-photographing is re-creation, releasing them to the next spring!
